Illusions (Wings #3) by Aprilynne Pike

Laurel hasn't seen Tamani since she begged him to let her go last year. Though her heart still aches, Laurel is confident that David was the right choice.

But just as life is returning to normal, Laurel discovers that a hidden enemy lies in wait. Once again, Laurel must turn to Tamani to protect and guide her, for the danger that now threatens Avalon is one that no faerie thought would ever be possible. And for the first time, Laurel cannot be sure that her side will prevail.

Available from HarperTeen on May 3, 2011 (Expected Publication!)

Review:

Illusions, like its predecessors Wings and Spells, is amazing. And I don't just mean amazing. I mean AMAZING. This series is continuously getting better and better, and the suspense is constantly killing me. I swear, I just can't get enough.

Illusions carries with it the same unbelievably mature magic as it's predecessors, with even more romantic tension. It's even more suspenseful, even more intense, even more magical, even more amazing.

And speaking of romantic tension . . . Tamani and David are still both vying for Laurel's heart, and the constant, unanswerable question likes to make it's presence known throughout the novel: Who will she choose? Don't worry, you're not the only one wondering. Although I am Team Tamani myself, David's efforts--and love--for Laurel is definitely admireable. He just won't give up, will he? Such dedication.

On the other hand, Tamani is as three-dimensional as a character can gets. He's sweet, and he's charming, and he's strong, and he's mysterious. And, you know, he's a faerie. I mean, it would be pretty hard to decide, wouldn't it? I definitely think so.

And, just like Wings and Spells, the book ends with--of course--a deadly cliffhanger. There is no arguing that it is the most painful cliffhanger of all three; the desire to know what happens is honestly crippling.

Overall, if you haven't noticed, I'm a huge fan of the Wings series, and Illusions is a very satisfying installment to the others. Along with the endless romantic troubles of Laurel, Illusions also focuses on the impending doom of Avalon, and the enemies that threaten to destroy its safety. Long-time Wings fans: don't worry, you won't be disappointed. Non-believers: it's time to jump on the bandwagon, and get to reading! Don't doubt it; just dive in!

Grade: A+
